Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Murdoch's Memories

WIMBLEDON manager Stuart Murdoch will want to forget last season's visit to Blundell Park when he saw his side concede six goals back in March when he was caretaker-manager.

Speaking of Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to Gillingham, where a reported 668 Wombles fans attended, Murdoch said: "The games come thick and fast once you get into the season and thankfully the boys have a chance to put the Gillingham game behind them straight away.

"Grimsby is a ghost I want to lay to rest. It was a strange game up there last season because we were in the lead twice and to lose 6-2 left us in a state of shock. It is a game I won't forget in a hurry."

Neil Shipperly and Patrick Agyemang twice gave Wimbledon the lead but hat-tricks from Mick Boulding and Alan Pouton helped seal an amazing victory for the Mariners in the corresponding fixture.

"But I learned a great deal from that," continued Murdoch. "We'll be looking to put the record straight tomorrow night. They're a well-organised side and they picked up some good results last season.

"People always seem to write them off, but they've proved them wrong for a long time now.

"At home they are tough to beat, but we'll be looking forward to away games this season and hopefully we can reproduce the form we showed for most of last season," he said.

The Mariners are expecting a crowd of near five thousand for their opening home game of the season, and fans have been reminded that there is a £1 increase on all ticket prices around the ground.
