Donno Back at Blundell Park

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/11/2003

FORMER Grimsby Town midfielder Kevin Donovan has returned to Blundell Park to train after being released from Barnsley by mutual consent.

The 31-year-old winger, who is now a free agent, has returned to his former club whilst he tries to keep his fitness levels up and look for a new contract.

"I spoke to Paul a couple of days ago and just needed somewhere to train. I spoke to one or two managers and Paul said to come here and keep fit. I just phoned him and said can I come and train and keep fit," Donovan told Mariners World.

Whilst there is currently no suggestion that Donovan may be offered a contract at Blundell Park, Paul Groves is bound to at least consider the possibility of re-signing the former Grimsby hero, who admits that going to Oakwell was a "mistake".

Donovan was a key member of the famous 1997-1998 squad which won the AWS trophy and the Division Two play-offs, scoring a remarkable 16 goals from midfield in the process, including the goal which saw Grimsby win promotion in the play-off final against Northampton.
