Where will Grimsby finish?

The Trust - Another View

By: Mister X
Date: 06/11/2003

ANOTHER article from Humberston Mariner, giving his views on the trust. He is entitled to his own opinion but, his views are not the view of many Town fans. Despite his thoughts, the trust is still in it's early days, and is well on it's way to becoming bigger and better.

Many trusts were set up at a time when their respective clubs were in danger of going out of business. This meant they were set up quicker and got more support due to the urgent nature of their aims. In Grimsby's case, the need is not so urgent (at the moment!) so supporters tend to treat it with a little apathy. If there are many fans with the same unpopular attitude of HM, then the trust board will find it had work.

The trust board are working hard to get the trust moving quicker, but certain things take time and announcements cannot be made it until they are finalised.

Supporters should realise (especially HM) that they too lead normal working lives and are not paid in any way to do what they are doing, they do it in their own time, and do it because in the long term they believe it will help the club. The club support it, so it is up to the fans to help make the trust work to help the club.

There are over 100 trusts currently running, and many of these took time to get up and running. Maybe this was because their supporters were willing to help it's growth rather than 'slag it off' on a website via an article under an assumed name.

Now is the time to stick together to help the club at a time when the club is not in the best financial situation, the trust is one way of doing this.

This is a right to reply article that some fans may or may not agree with, and to put doubters minds at rest, I am not a member of the trust board, but, I have joined the Grimsby Town Supporters Trust because I believe in the long term it will benefit the club in many ways. Then again I am 'just another fan with an opinion'.
