New Target Man Or Rumour?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 14/06/2003

REPORTS suggest that midfielder Steven Clark is being targeted by Grimsby Town. It was reported last week that Clark had agreed verbally with Southend that he would be signing a one year contract. He has not yet signed the deal and therefore he is 'available' to offers.

Clark arrived at the Shrimpers from West Ham on loan in November 2001 after coming up through the ranks at the East London club, where he had failed to make the grade.

After two months on loan where he showed tremendous pace on the right wing, Newman paid the Hamsters £50K for his services.

Since joining permanently Clark has been a regular starter for the first team and is still only 20 years old. Although his pace is blistering, he has at times been criticised by the fans for lacking ball control and crossing ability. However, all recognise that he has the potential to be a fine winger.

Clark has just one Southend goal to his name, the winner in the game with Lincoln City at Sincil Bank in March.

Born: London
D.O.B: 2.2.82
Squad number: 12
Position: Right Wing
Height: 6ft 1in
Weight: 12st 5lbs

Other news:

Georges Santos is unlikely to return to Grimsby Town according to Radio Humberside.

Santos has a new agent, former England international Mick Mills, and he's looking for first division wages which are outside Town's wage cap, and unless he moderates his wages demand he will not be coming back.
