Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

I Love Grimsby !

SO Town are bottom of the division, and it seems that a few fans of a certain big city club are having a field day at our expense.

Perhaps out of relief that they are no longer propping up the division, but what amuses me most is not their derision at our plight, but the fact that as well as criticising our team they feel a need to pull down our town.

Well I don't know much about Sheffield and so therefore cannot praise or criticise the place, however, I feel their knowledge of my hometown is just as limited.

For what do they know of a summers evening visit to Peoples Park, or the beauty of Bargate in the autumn, a Saturday afternoon spent by the Riverhead just relaxing (in summer of course when Town aren't playing), springtime down Scartho Road and round Nuns Corner, the cenotaph bedecked with poppies on a cold still November morning, dozens of football teams playing on Bradley Pitches on a freezing Sunday in January and, my favourite, looking down Freeman Street towards the Dock Tower on a sunny morning the sun lighting one side of that beautiful tower in a bright orange while the other visible face is in dark shadow with the bright blue sky as a backcloth behind it.

Some things may not be as aesthetically pleasing but still the memories of them remind you of growing up in Grimsby, for me its Scartho Baths, I don't know why, but whenever I drive past the place it brings on a wave of nostalgia, and of course a walk down the North Wall always reminds me of when I was a kid and my dad took me to work with him, all those beautiful ships tied up bows to the wall and ladders propped up against the prow to enable people to get on and off.

They can never know of these things but they are part of the reason I love Grimsby, and because I love Grimsby, I love Grimsby Town FC. The club is the sporting embodiment of the Town. To me going to watch GTFC is my way of showing my love of Grimsby, the town and its History.

So bottom of the division? We could be bottom of the conference I'd still be there, its part of me, its part of my soul.

GOD I LOVE GRIMSBY, ME!!
