Board - Time for Action

RECENTLY on the Fishcake a post appeared on the way Walsall run things. This is I believe our future - the new stadium is paramount for the club's survival.

We need a stadium which will generate income on other than matchdays and is operational for 365 days a year.

Yet members of the board seem to think by just standing still and not investing in the future it will be alright on the night. We are just in a vicious downward spiral and it won't be too long gates being at Franchise Wimbledon level. Quite frankly the board deserve everything currently happening but the fans don't.

We not so long ago had the upward feeling that the club was finally striving forward. We have all but had this destroyed and the apathy has returned on and off the pitch.

I am not one who thinks millions need investing but if the new stadium was going to be around the corner it is prudent for certain board members to show they take pride in the club, to believe in its vision. Yes ITV has not helped, but despite the drop in income it shows it is more important than at any time to force through the move to a new stadium.

All we hear is Furneaux saying negative views that little will happen for 5 years and King's parting shot. All I can say is if the delay is for red tape then we have to bite the bullet and accept it. However if the delay is because of our small narrow-minded board then they deserve the negative apathy currently happening.

I certainly think it would not be too much of a personal bind for each board member who can afford it to give the club the equivalent of 1,000 pounds a week so that additions to the squad can be made. To a businessman this would hardly dent his weekly salary, and I like the comparison of the working class person buying a ticket for the game.

I am against loaning as this can cause financial problems in the future for short term fixes. Also when a board member who has made loans gets upset, resigns and demands his loan back he can cripple the club. It certainly has happened in the past and will happen again.
