Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Buckley Says No To World War 2 Treasure!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 07/02/2002

ALAN Buckley was left fuming after discovering secret plans to bring back a former Lincoln City favourite to Sincil Bank said the Grimsby Telegraph today. But it wasn't the return of a former player - it was the suggestion that the air raid siren could return to Sincil Bank!

The World War Two relic was a Lincoln City tradition before Buckley moved in at the Bank but he banned it within days of arriving a year ago as he went about implementing his own passing style on a team who had become notorious in the lower leagues for their direct style, said The GET.

But fans want to see it back to sound the warning every time the Imps get a free-kick or a corner but Buckley is having none of it saying: "I was aware of the siren from when I came to Lincoln scouting or just to watch a game and I thought it was ridiculous. fumed Buckley.

"In my opinion it made the club a laughing stock within the game. It was like a pantomime and there was no way I wanted to be associated with it."

The chairman of the Imps' Supporters' Trust Rick Keracher said "I know Alan Buckley is not in favour of it. The air-raid siren gave the club an identity and got people talking about the club. But I can see why Mr Buckley felt it wasn't in keeping with his style."

Buckley's answer: "I can understand why it was brought in because it did give the club an identity. It was popular when John Beck was manager here and fair enough for trying something different. But it's not for me." END

Billo Says: Today's Quiz; Did Mr Buckley like Harry the Haddock? Name 3 things Mr Buckley likes excluding Grimsby Town, fans and strikers.
