Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Farewell Kingsley

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 23/05/2001

FEW will be sorry to see Kingsley Black extending his playing career with his move to Lincoln City. Not given a guarantee of first team football and being offered a 12-month contract, he has chosen to move to Sincil Park to join Alan Buckley in two-year deal.

In commenting on the signing of Black, Alan Buckley told the Grimsby Telegraph, "He is a very intelligent player and can play in two or three positions. He will no doubt make a big impression on the small squad we've got,"

"He is one of the best professionals I've worked with. He is familiar with the way that I like football to be played after the time that we had together at Grimsby and he will fit very well into the set-up that we have here now.

"He is a first-class example not only as a footballer but also as a person off the pitch and he is a great role model for all of the youngsters here."

"There is a long way to go before people see the finished product of where I want this club to go but signing Kingsley Black is a big step towards that goal."

On Lincoln Black said "I can see the club moving forwards over the next season and things working out very well, Alan and I have worked together well in the past and I fully expect that to be the case for the future.

"Next season I can see us being at the other end of the table pushing for promotion and that is why I've come here."

Lennie Lawrence said, "We were looking at ways of keeping him but he rang me and told me they'd offered him a two-year deal and I'm delighted for him,"

"He'll play more there and he's been outstanding professional and a great influence on the younger players this year. It's a good contract for at his time of life and we wish him all the best."
