Impressive Start Continues

GRIMSBY chalked up another impressive victory at Torquay, coming from behind for the second successive week to chalk up a win against one of the pre-season favourites. Goals from Efete, Cokes and Clifton once again saw Town scoring from across the whole squad, an encouraging sign with Paul Hurst still to add a target man to his troupe.

Towler and Clifton replaced Pearson and Bapaga respectively, with Town playing 4-4-1-1, John McAtee and Ryan Taylor being the two attackers.

Despite a strong start by Town, Torquay took the lead following a foul by Coke from which Little took the set-piece and his shot went in with the help of a slight deflection.

Torquay could have added a second from a corner from which Wright headed down and Lewis could only hook the ball the bar over from close range.

Town levelled midway through the first half with a solitary goal from Efete who was allowed to run into the box and blast past the 'keeper to make it all square.

Sousa had a shot blocked but Coke soon went one better when he put Town in front, flicking the ball in from a Hunt free-kick.

Town ended the half strongly and Taylor could have made it 3-1 but his shot from a Clifton pass was blocked on the line.

After the break, Taylor had a chance to make it 3-1 when the 'keeper flapped at a Hunt free-kick but the Town midfielder headed over.

The second half turned into a stop-start affair but Clifton just failed to get on to the end of a McAtee cross which would have put daylight between the two sides.

Town finally found that daylight in injury time when Clifton was played through and slotted past Halstead to send the 450+ away contingent into ecstasy.

Grimsby's impressive start to the season is compounded by the fact that they have faced so many of the fancied sides already, and they face another on Tuesday when Wrexham come to Blundell Park.
