A Day to Forget

IN a busy series of developments at Blundell Park and further afield, Town director John Fenty has resigned as Deputy Leader of NELC and the board have rejected an offer by convicted fraudster Alex May to buy £1m of shares in the club.
Here is a summary of developments:
John Fenty, the major shareholder of Grimsby Town has resigned from his positions as The Deputy Leader of NELC and as cabinet member responsible for regeneration, although he will continue as a councillor. Fenty in a statement said he would now be able to spend more time at the club, where he had stepped aside from day to day involvement earlier this year.
Meanwhile, Alex May, the fraudster who was jailed for six years, had made an offer to invest £1m in shares to the club for new training facilities. May, who cannot be a director because of his conviction, claims to offer the capital with no strings attached, although he has no previous connection with the Mariners, and has never lived in the town. After a board meeting tonight, the club have rejected this offer.
May was photographed last week attending a game at Blundell Park and has also attended two others as a guest of the directors. It was subsequently revealed that Day and Fenty had set up a Manchester-based company earlier this year, although May subsequently resigned as a director and the company, according to John Fenty, has never traded and is now run entirely by him.
Some supporters are calling for Fenty to depart from the club entirely, which he has been involved with for the best part of two decades, although there is no suggestion that that is going to happen soon unless another buyer can be found.
Meanwhile, Town have to put this to the back of their minds for 24 hours at least and concentrate on the important matter of Tuesday's game at bottom club Southend. Southend beat Scunthorpe at the weekend all will be aiming to catch Town at an inopportune moment.
