Taking the Point

CHANCES were at a premium in yesterday's 0-0 draw at Blundell Park. The point at least ended Grimsby's three-match losing run and took Town to within two points of the 50-points mark which usually is enough to see off relegation.

Strong winds were not conducive to passing football and what chances there were were mainly limited to shots from distance.

In the first half, Northampton came closest to scoring when Luke Hendrie's attempted headed backpass led to a good chance for the Cobblers, but was put wide.

Town came closest with long-range strikes from Hessenthaler and Thomas.

After the break, Northampton's Sam Hoskins headed a David Buchanan cross wide, and Elliot Embleton went closest with a long-range effort.

Town have another game next week at Blundell Park when they take on high-flying Bury.
