Stockdale new Youth Coach

GRIMSBY full back Robbie Stockdale has become Town's Youth Coach, filling a position which has been vacant since Neil Woods stepped up as manager in the middle of last season. 30-year-old Stockdale will have to juggle his new role with first team duties as he still intends to play.

Stockdale's playing career has been largely been spent at Middlesbrough, Rotherham and Tranmere. He has also played five times for Scotland, despite being born in England and representing England at U-21 level.

Stockdale spent much of last season injured, so has had plenty of time to ponder on life after playing football.

Robbie told Mariners Net: "Neil and the rest of the staff have seen me coaching with the School of Excellence and Neil's asked me to do the job.

"It's an important role and I feel very proud to have been asked to do the job.

"It's something I always wanted to get in to. I've always loved the game and I hope I can bring my experience in to what is another chapter in my life.

"Coaching and possibly getting into management is something that has always interested me. I got my badges quite early in my career and I'm now looking forward to it."

Grim Rob Says: Good luck to Robbie and it's good that Town have got someone who they know so well and have had such a long time to look at rather than someone who talks the talks in an interview. It might not be easy doing both roles, but no doubt this is something which everyone has discussed and are happy with.
