Town Draw Tranmere

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 13/06/2008

GRIMSBY have been handed a home draw with League One side Tranmere in the Carling Cup Round 1. The two sides last met in 2004 on the day Grimsby got relegated to League Two, when Town lost 2-1 despite leading 1-0 against 10 men.

Tranmere ended mid-table last season, but they have flirted with both promotion and relegation since Town encountered them in what is now League One. The Birkenhead club will probably be favourites to progress into the next round, but with the Mariners having home advantage there will not be much in it.

The full draw is as follows:

Preston v Chesterfield
Chester v Leeds
Leicester v Stockport
Sheff Utd v Port Vale
Grimsby v Tranmere
Crewe v Barnsley
Hartlepool v Scunthorpe
Derby v Lincoln
Notts County v Doncaster
Sheff Wed v Rotherham
Shrewsbury v Carlisle
Wolves v Accrington
Bury v Burnley
Rochdale v Oldham
Nottm Forest v Morecambe
Huddersfield v Bradford
Macclesfield v Blackpool
Walsall v Darlington
Coventry v Aldershot
M K Dons v Norwich
Wycombe v Birmingham
Brighton v Barnet
Gillingham v Colchester
Southend v Cheltenham
Swansea v Brentford
Luton v Plymouth
Exeter v Southampton
Watford v Bristol Rovers
Bournemouth v Cardiff
Bristol City v Peterborough
Charlton v Yeovil
Millwall v Northampton
Swindon v QPR
Crystal Palace v Hereford
Dag & Red v Reading
Ipswich v Leyton Orient

Ties are due to be played week commencing 11 August.
