Can Town Nick Quick Mick?

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 12/06/2008

FORMER Mariner Mick Boulding is officially a Town target after Alan Buckley confirmed to the Grimsby Telegraph that the 25-goal front man is on his wanted list. However Boulding who is out of contract with the Stags this summer is interested a number of other League Two clubs.

Buckley told the Grimsby Telegraph: "I have spoken briefly to Michael but then I went on holiday and I think he's away now.

"We have made our interest known by making contact and we'll see what happens - I know a lot of clubs will be keen on Michael's services."

Boulding scored 28 goals during his two stints for Town in 2001/02 and 2003/04, 11 goals in his first stint and 17 in his second spell at Blundell Park. He managed 25-goals last season in a struggling Mansfield side and had more shots on target than any other striker in the league according the the official Football League stats.

Bradford, Rotherham, Scunthorpe and Lincoln are all said to head the list of Grimsby's rivals who have thrown their names in the hat.

Town's best hope, apart from offering Boulding lots of money, is the soft spot that the 32-year-old has for the Mariners after two highly successful spells at Blundell Park when he was a crowd favourite. He has never celebrated goals scored against Town during his time at Mansfield.

In an interview with the Fishy in 2006 Boulding told Jake Olley: "I would definitely return to the Mariners if things changed! And my message to the fans would be: Thanks for so many great memories. Sorry if you feel I let you down but there are two sides to every story. When I played for the Mariners I always gave everything I had and that how I'd like to be remembered."

Grim Rob Says The signature of Quick Mick would be just the fillip that the club needs and hopefully would give a sign to both fans and prospective signings that Grimsby are going places, following last season's Wembley final and a with new ground on the horizon.
