Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

GTFC Make Santos An Offer To Stay!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 28/04/2003

GRIMSBY Town Chairman Peter Furneaux has declared that the Mariners want to keep George Santos and that the club have asked him how much it will cost to keep him at Blundell Park.

In a statement on Mariners Net, Mr Furneaux said; "We want to keep Santos. We've said to him, "Are you prepared to play in the second division? Tell us what monies you require." "We'll then deal with that in a practical manner - because we want to keep Santos."

"Santos has told us that he's off back to Belgium at the end of the season. He'll see through his agent what offers he's got - then he will make the decision."

On Mariners World, Santos said:" I've enjoyed my time at Grimsby and we will see at the end of the season. We have got eight or nine weeks - we will see."

Billo says: This is excellent news from the club. Santos has very quickly won the admiration of the Mariners fans this season and his performances have not gone unnoticed by other clubs. Because of his age, he will be seeking the best terms he can get, and if a club in a higher division were to offer him a better deal, it is almost certain that Georges will not return to Blundell Park.

One cannot blame him for that, but if he does go, it will certainly be with the good wishes of both the club and the supporters. He has served Grimsby Town well this season.
