Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

More Bad News For Town!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 02/07/2002

THE Grimsby Telegraph have broken the bad news for Grimsby Town today with two young stars set for the Blundell Park exit with Simon Ford training at Wolves with a view to a free transfer, and Michael Boulding expecting to trial with Middlesbrough next week.

The Telegraph report goes on to say that: "Doubts are beginning to surface over whether Paul Groves will stay on as manager amid concerns he won't be given the resources to keep the club in the first division.

Groves will be forced to start pre-season tomorrow with only 14 senior professionals on the books - the smallest squad for years - with no prospect of new faces on the horizon.

That is fuelling fears that he and his assistant Graham Rodger could refuse the three-year offers on the table.

Chairman Peter Furneaux has told the management duo that he wants an answer by tomorrow.

Publicly Groves wants a quick resolution, but there is a real fear he could drop back down to the playing staff rather than accept a manager's job where the chances of success have diminished since ITV Digital pulled the plug." Groves said "It will be nice to get it sorted by the end of the week and then we can begin to move forward."

"It's important for the players that they know who the management team is as early as possible. Then they will know where they stand."

"We've spoken to every one of the out-of-contract players individually. They know our feelings with regards to what we'd like to do in an ideal world."

"We've been as honest as we can with them given our situation and we've given everybody the opportunity to come back with us and get themselves fit."
