Where will Grimsby finish?

Livvo Returns To Training After Long Absence!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 21/11/2001

GOOD news today for Grimsby Town with Steve Livingstone taking part in training with the rest of the squad for the first time this season. Although he is still several weeks away from a first team return he was able to join in with a light session yesterday after coming through unscathed on Monday

"I can't go over the top and think that's me back, but it was nice to be training," said Livingstone to the Grimsby Telegraph. He is still undergoing tests with specialists who are reported to be optimistic that they are close to diagnosing the problem as poor circulation in his lower leg. He was seen previously by a vascular surgeon.

"I have to take it steady but, touch wood, there was no reaction on Monday, and there's been no reaction so far. I'm as surprised as anybody and I'm half hoping it's disappeared." Said Livvo.

Stuart Rowson reported that Livingstone's return to action, albeit tentatively, left Lawrence optimistic for the future after the injury crisis at the club finally began to show signs of lifting.

Marlon Broomes, Phil Jevons, Stacy Coldicott, Alan Neilson and Michael Jeffrey also look to be ready for the Burnley game on Friday.

"We've made significant progress and yesterday there was only Macca left in the treatment room. That was very heartening," said Lennie Lawrence.

Full-back McDermott is expected to return around Christmas time and Lawrence said he was happy that his players returning ahead of the next four games against the Burnley, Arsenal, Manchester City and Wolves.

"It's vital going into these games that some of them come back. There's not going to be a massive choice to start on Friday, but at least there will be some good competition for the bench." said Lawrence.

From the fans point of view, the return of Livingstone is probably the best news they have had for some time and his presence in the box has been greatly missed.
