If you look up 'inconsistent' in the dictionary you will find the name of 'Ashley Fickling'. One game he'd be everywhere, the next he'd be awful. So, no surprise that Mr Laws signed him, as another of his (very) rough diamonds, that if anything, got rougher as he went along.
Fickling played anywhere across the defence, occasionally performing well. I seem to remember him playing a blinder at home to West Ham in the cup and then characteristically falling to shreds the game after. He played 3 and a half seasons at Town, but one of those was in the reserves under Alan Buckley, and Fickling was quickly sent back to Scunny to rekindle his past times with our good mate Mr Laws.
