Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Our Prayers Answered?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 22/03/2001

With transfer day today it seems that so far Danny Coyne has not been pulled by a bigger club unless negotiations are going on quietly in the background. Grimsby fans will be hoping that he will be staying as he has proven to be one of the best players the Mariners have had for a long time.

It is difficult to estimate just how many times that Coyne's goalkeeping prowess has saved us from defeat and how successful he has been in keeping the goals against tally from being much higher than it is.

But during the last frantic 24 hours in the transfer dealings many Mariners supporters have been praying that Coyne will have been forgotten in the mad rush to sign players before the deadline.

It is not over yet but so far no news has been good news and it will not be until 5.00pm today that we can be certain. Moves may be made for him during the summer break but our main priority is for him to stay until the end of this season.

Without any hope of getting goals from our front runners, we are left with isolated goals from set pieces scored by defenders and midfield players, which highlights how vital the Coyne machine has been to us this season.

Steff Keightly for one will be waiting anxiously for news on Coyne and has been saying the Coyne prayer he composed all day:

Our Danny
Who art betwixt Sticks
Worshipped is thy name. Thy time will come
Thy will play, for Wales
As you do at Grimsby

Give us this day our daily Saves
And Forgive those who try to score against you
As we try to score against them

And lead us away from relegation
and Deliver us back to mid-table
For thine is the One Shirt, the Power and The Glory
For ever and ever
Our GOALIE.
