Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Town Sign Keeper

By: Paul Holmes
Date: 21/03/2001

TOWN have signed Morten Hyldgaard on loan from Coventry until the end of the season. The giant Dane, who is the Sky Blues 3rd choice goalkeeper, last season played five games between the sticks for local rivals Scunthorpe during a loan spell, but has not featured this campaign for the Midlands club.

Town manager Lennie Lawrence has repeatedly said that he wants a keeper as cover for Steve Croudson and Danny Coyne - with transfer deadline day tomorrow the Grimsby manager has found his man with a day to spare.

However, Lawrence stated that he wanted an experienced keeper with over 100 games under his belt. Rumours will no doubt begin that Danny Coyne is leaving and Lennie knows this and has brought in the Dane as a short-term replacement until the end of the season.

Could tomorrow see the end of Danny Coyne's Grimsby career? A number of clubs including Premiership giants Aston Villa and Town's first division rivals Bolton and Nottingham Forest have been linked with the Welsh keeper, with a figure of around £1m widely quoted as the price needed to prise Coyne away from Blundell Park before the deadline.

Update on International

The scheduled international, as reported here first, has been confirmed by UEFA and The FA.

The game will be part of the European Under 16 Championships that will take place in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and the North East - the final will be held at Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

The game at Blundell Park, confirmed as France Vs Finland, will take place on Friday 27th April with a provisional 5:30pm kick off.

Grimsby Town's commercial manager, Tony Richardson, told Mariners Net "It is an honour and something that the club has not experienced before. To see that standard of football from young lads all over Europe should be a big attraction"
