It emerged today that Grimsby Town have signed young goalkeeper Morgan Cranley from Ireland's Belvedere FC. Cranley arrived at Blundell Park before Christmas and the highly rated Irishman has now been rewarded with a two-and-a-half year contract after impressing the Grimsby coaching staff.

17-year old Cranley is a former Republic of Ireland Under-15 international and came to Grimsby with a reputation as being a dedicated youngster firmly committed to establishing himself in professional football. Originally from Beaumont, Cranley earned the title of Young Player Of The Year for Belvedere in 1999. Town boss Lennie Lawrence will hope that the Irishman will bring to a conclusion his search to find cover for regular keepers Danny Coyne and Steve Croudson. Recent months have seen trialists such as New Zealand international Jason Batty and Newcastle United youngster Stephen Grindley arrive at Blundell Park in hope of securing the third-choice spot.
