Handyside Loan?

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/09/2000

Lennie Lawrence is contemplating letting centre back Peter Handyside go on loan for a month to a lower division club in a bid to improve the 25-year-old's fitness. Hanndyside has featured in some recent reserve games and also started in the second Worthington cup game against Carlisle.

Handyside hasn't played a league game for the Mariners since May 1999 and he missed the whole of last season following an ankle injury sustained in a pre-season tour of Ireland before the start of last season.

Lawrence commented: "Playing in the lower leagues would sharpen him up because at the moment he's still a bit off the first division pace."
