Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Grimsby Climb to Seventh

GRIMSBY bounced back from their disappointing result at Southend with a superb 2-0 win at Yeovil. Forgotten man Sean Scannell put the visitors ahead in the first half, and new signing Emmanuel Dieseruvwe added a second after the break to secure three points for Grimsby.

Paul Hurst made (for him) dramatic changes to the starting line-up dropping five players and bringing in Sean Scannell for a surprise start, along with Dieseruvwe, Smith, Amos and Burgess. Coke, Sousa, Crookes, Pearson and Abrahams all dropped out of the starting XI.

In the first half, Town created the better chances. Yeovil had a good opportunity in the opening minute, but it was Grimsby who took an early lead when Scannell received the ball in a wide position, cut inside and drilled it past Smith to give Grimsby the lead.

Michee Efete then had a golden chance to score but sent it wide. Clifton also had an effort saved from close range after good build-up play.

Yeovil had a chance in the opening minute and hit the outside of the post from a Barclay header in its closing stages, but in between Town had created the better chances and led 1-0 after the break.

Town went further ahead on the hour mark when Dieseruvwe volleyed the ball in from a corner.

Grimsby continued to create the better chances in the final half hour and were good value for their 2-0 win.

They now have another difficult game when they travel to Boreham Wood on Saturday for the first on two games against the North Londoners, who are fifth, two places above Grimsby who now occupy the final play-off place.
