Grimsby Town's on/off deal with Menno Willems's club Vitesse Arnhem could go "right down to the wire" according to Grimsby Town's press officer Tim Harvey. Grimsby who are trying to secure Willems are presently trying to negotiate a payment arrangement but talks are deadlocked so far.

Mr Harvey said. "Obviously Lennie wants to include him for the Barnsley game, but at the moment the situation is a stalemate."

"As the financial solution is causing problems, the club has applied for an extension of his loan deal so we can play him against Barnsley. But we might not know about his eligibility until shortly before the game."

Later in the day a frustrated Lennie Lawrence told Radio Humberside "Things are going round in circles. There's talk of loan extensions but they're not going to do that are they? We badly want him here on a permanent basis."

Grimsby's Acordis Gesture

The mariners Net, Grimsby Town's official website today reported that the club had made a goodwill gesture to employees of Acordis many of whom are to lose their jobs.

The statement:

"Grimsby Town Football Club have stepped in to offer workers at Acordis in Grimsby free tickets for Saturday's match with Barnsley, after learning that many of them stand to lose their jobs due to re-structuring of the company.

Mariners stars Steve Livingstone and David Smith went along to the factory on Thursday morning to hand over 200 complimentary match tickets to Human Resources Manager John Topliss in a gesture from the club at this difficult time for many of the 800 strong workforce."

This is an excellent offer by the club who's actions will be applauded by Town fans some of whom are affected by the plant shutdown. Unemployment is a problem in the area and it is good to see that the club are extending a helping hand in the community.
