IT was fitting that the season ended at Wimbledon, even if they don't play in Wimbledon any more, as the tennis ball and the cricket ball will have to take the place of football for the next few months for many supporters.

Wimbledon took an early lead through striker Luke Moore and had several chances to extend their lead but for Town 'keeper Kenny Arthur. Town gradually came into the game and Alan Connell scored his 29th goal of the season five minutes before half time with a well taken goal from the edge of the box.

But at the start of the second half Wimbledon re-took the lead from a corner. Minshull's header bounced back off the bar and Johnson was on hand to poke the rebound in.

Town almost scored an equaliser on 75 minutes when Thanoj struck the bar with a shot from the edge of the box.

But it wasn't to be and the Mariners season fizzled to a halt without Connell reaching the 30 goal mark.
