Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Beat the Bookies: Week 6

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 29/08/2006

LAST week Beat the Bookies was unfortunately correct to predict a Grimsby defeat at Bury, where the bookies were hopelessly wrong to make Town favourites to win. West Ham came close at Anfield but it wasn't to be a double prediction this time.

This weekend the Mariners play on Friday, as England are playing on Saturday. Once again Grimsby have been made favourites to win by the bookies, who are yet to fully wake up to the reality of life at Blundell Park this season. The Mariners are 8/11 to beat basement club Macclesfield at home, a fixture Graham Rodger desperately needs to pick up three points from. bet365.com go 8/11 for a Grimsby win, 10/3 a Macclesfield win, and 12/5 a draw. Despite confidence being low and the possibility of more new faces to bed in, Town should at least avoid defeat at Blundell Park, but you'd be very brave to back them to secure the three points at that price.

In the first scorer market, bet365.com's 11/2 on Peter Bore to score the first goal is good value, if you fancy Town to actually find the net first that is!

With most of the other games in League Two seeing the home teams strong favourites, there's little to recommenced in the division this week.

Likewise England aren't worth backing at 1/100 to beat Andorra unless you have few grand to spare. Possible upsets are Georgia to beat France at home (11/2), Moldova to beat Greece at home (4/1) and even Wales to win in Prague (8/1), where the Czechs will be hoping to bounce back from yet another disappointing World Cup. .

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Wales to beat Czech Republic (8/1 with bet365.com).
