Livvo Out For Two Months

GRIMSBY striker Steve Livingstone has today been released from hospital after spending three nights under observation since suffering a fractured skull in Town's 2-1 defeat to Derby at the weekend.

Manager Paul Groves today revealed how the player was wondering when he could report back training again, reports the Grimsby Telegraph.

"I went to see him on Sunday and he was still groggy," said Groves "But he was asking the physio when he could train or go out for a run.

"That's all he was asking about. When could he start training and get back playing again. He was lying in bed with a fractured skull and all he could think about was playing football.

"We won't see him for eight weeks minimum. We've got four fit strikers and he's the most experienced. He's big and strong and wins the majority of the 'fight' balls. It's a massive, massive blow that we've lost him.

"It's not just what he gives us on the pitch, it's what we've lost off it as well. I thought he was getting better and better with games. All the young players look up to him. He guides them.

"We haven't just lost a player; we've lost one of those strong people who the others lean on for support. He's hungry and has a great desire," concluded the Town boss.

Club physio Paul Mitchell has also revealed that the 33-year old could suffer from fits and bad headaches as a result of the clash of heads.

Mitchell added: "He's going to have spells of headaches and fits for at least a year, hopefully he won't develop epilepsy and, at the moment, he isn't on medication for that."

Livingstone virtually missed the whole of last season with circulatory problems in his calves, and the former Chelsea and Blackburn striker will not be back in the first team until late October at the earliest.

It means Paul Groves will be looking for a replacement, either a loan or a permanent addition to the squad, to combat the lack of power up front.
