Mariners Depth Chart

By: Dr Fishy
Date: 15/08/2002

DR FISHY has noted the recent arrivals at Blundell Park, and the debate raging on the message boards about our best XI... he has come up with a "Mariners Depth Chart".

Home > Features > Mariners Depth Chart

This is how it works. The first player in each position is who Dr Fishy sees as first choice. The second player is who would take that position if the first choice was unavailable for whatever reason.

Here is the chart, read on for further explanation....

Example; if Steve Chettle was injured, then Ford may come in, but if Macca got a knock too, then Ford could replace one of them, with either Paul Raven coming in at centre half, or Iain Ward at right back. But Groves would not be a replacement for Chettle as he would already be in the side in the same position. Similar rules apply to the other positions where we have 2 players in the side, namely centre forward and central midfield.)

The chart also weighs against the more inexperienced squad members, considers recent team selections, and how Paul Groves does not seem to favour Livvo at centre half, nor Chris Thompson in the first team as much as previous bosses may have done.

Some choice may seem bizarre initially, but Dr Fishy has tried to cater for every situation. For instance, Stace could be at right back, IF all the midfielders were fit, but we had a defensive injury crisis. Similarly, if all centre backs were fit, but we have midfield worries, Pouts could move to left midfield to accommodate the Gaffer in his place. Not that anyone is saying this will happen, its just a case of looking at the alternatives.

(The following have not been classified, as Dr Fishy anticipates that loan signings would step in if we had that many injuries; P.Fraser, K.Wheeler, G.Hockless, F.Cass, D.Soames, G.Carchedi.)

Feel free to discuss this on the message boards, and maybe do your own depth charts to compare with Dr.Fishy's?
