Cornwall Signs On Loan

THE NEW STRIKER for Grimsby Town is, as revealed on the early edition of The Fishy, Luke Cornwall a 20 year old fringe player from Fulham. Cornwall arrived at Blundell Park this morning and signed the loan contract which will keep him with the Mariners until the end of the season.
Lennie Lawrence said "I am obviously very pleased to bring in a new face. I have seen Luke play in the Fulham reserve side, although his opportunities in their first team are obviously limited because of the wealth of talent available at Craven Cottage. Luke will be in the squad of 16 for tonight against Wimbledon - possibly in the starting line-up, possibly on the bench."
This is excellent news for Grimsby who are desperate for a front runner who knows where the net is and is a good result for manager Lawrence who has used his many connections in football to bring fresh faces to Blundell Park and has now achieved his toughest part of his searches for a striker.

Young striker Luke is said to be one of the hottest prospects to come through the Fulham youth system for a while. A forward who has scored goals at every level he has played at, he netted his first for the first team in the 3-3 draw with York City in 1998. Luke made his debut in the 1-0 defeat at Notts County that same year. Chances became a little limited towards the end of the 98/99 season, so local rivals QPR took him on loan and Luke showed what he can do by firing a hat-trick in the reserves - against Fulham of all teams! The Whites then took him back and he is now back in the reserves, although many supporters believe that he merits a fair run in the first team.
