Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Town See Off Gateshead

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 08/10/2015

NATHAN Arnold crowned his return to the side with a brace of goals to give Grimsby a much-needed win over Gateshead. Arnold had missed recent games due to the death of his mother, but he bounced back in the best possible way with a match winning performance.

Arnold was the only change made by Paul Hurst. coming back into the side with Mackreth dropping to the bench. It meant that Bogle and Amond once again started on the bench, with Tomlinson and Pittman favoured in attack.

The visitors took an early lead thanks to a terrible mistake by James McKeown with the visitors' first "attempt" on goal. The ball was launched into the box and McKeown, under no pressure at all, simply had to catch it but somehow it slipped through his hands and into the net

But Town were soon deservedly level when Nathan Arnold struck with an individual goal, bursting through the defence to blast it past the 'keeper.

Town dominated the first half but had little to show for their possession. However Arnold put Town in front early in the second half with a long range shot that powered past the stunned Gateshead 'keeper.

Tomlinson missed a couple of chances in the second half but Grimsby made their way to the full time whistle with no undue scares.

The Mariners dominated the game from start to finish and McKeown can be relieved that his mistake didn't stop Grimsby coming away with three points.
