Town Win at Dover

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/03/2015

GRIMSBY recorded their sixth win in seven games at Dover with another hard-fought single goal victory. Lenell John-Lewis returned to the starting line-up and his early goal was no more than Town deserved in a first half they were the better team in.

Toto Nsiala should have made it two goals to Town before the break but he couldn't get enough power on his header.

In the second half Dover started to come in to the game more and in the last twenty minutes they had a host of chances to equalise. There were half a dozen goal mouth incidents which Town manage to survive, and McKeown kept Town in the game with a brilliant save which he tipped around the post.

It was a typical Grimsby away performance this season when Town were solid, scored an early goal and sat out and defended their lead.

The Mariners are now three points off the top, virtually assured of a play-off place, and all eyes are now on the summit. Grimsby need both Barnet and Bristol Rovers to drop points but the two clubs above the Mariners have a more difficult run-in, and Town have the momentum after a great run during February and March.

Town visit Kent again when they play Welling at the weekend. The Wings are in the bottom four and need to repeat last year's victory over Town to have any hope of avoiding the drop as they are six points clear of the safety zone.
