One Goal Enough to Beat Telford

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/02/2015

GRIMSBY followed up their win over the top club at the weekend with a win over the bottom club last night, but they made hard work of it after missing a hatful of chances and had to endue some nervy moments to creep eventually over the line with a 1-0 victory.

Nathan Arnold scored the game's only goal but striker Lennell John Lewis could have scored four or five goals on a night he forgot to wear his shooting boots.

After 20 minutes John-Lewis and Jolley both had chances to put the ball in the net after a cross from Arnold but Hall saved John-Lewis's shot as well as the follow up from Jolley.

On the half hour Arnold had a great chance with a one-on-one with the keeper but Hall got down to tip Arnold's shot round the post.

After a goalless first half which Town dominated Arnold gave Town the lead early in the second, and it was no more than Grimsby deserved. Arnold latched on to a cross by Robertson, took a touch, and fired into the net to give Town the lead.

Grimsby had several good chances to make it two. LJL missed three good chances. One was saved, another hit the bar and a third was off target after the referee let play continue when Telford thought he had blown for offside.

Town made hard work of it despite plenty of chances to double their lead and almost paid the ultimate price when they presented an equaliser to Telford at the death after a poor clearance by McKeown. Thankfully Telford did not take it and in the Grimsby stumbled over the line for a well deserved win.

Bristol Rovers went top after a late winner over Braintree, Grimsby's next opponents at the weekend. Grimsby are now eight points cleat of Halifax in 6th place but the Shaymen have four games in hand on Town. Grimsby need to win most of their 11 remaining games if they are to have a chance or reaching the summit of the table.
