Lincoln v Grimsby Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/12/2013

GRIMSBY hope to continue their unbeaten run both in the league and against Lincoln when the two clubs lock horns at Sincil Bank for the Boxing Day clash which is sold out for away fans. Grimsby have gone 13 matches unbeaten in all competitions and the Mariners have gone 11 matches without defeat against Lincoln.

Town have won both Conference clashes at Sincil Bank, last year running out convincing 4-1 victors on Boxing Day, although City managed a draw at Blundell Park last time the two clubs met at the start of the year.

Every match counts for three points but this is one of the few league fixtures in the season where a victory means a bit more than that, against a local rival. Lincoln are Town's oldest advisory in a rivalry which began in the early days of the two clubs in the last few decades of the 19th century. The two clubs' paths have woven a similar trajectory over the last few seasons when the two have clashed in League Two and then latterly in the Skrill Conference.

Grimsby have a settled squad following the impressive victory over Kidderminster last week and they will also benefit from two day's extra rest. It will be no surprise if Paul Hurst names the same team as played so well last Thursday against Harriers.

Lincoln have several players injured or suspended. Fist teamers Marlon Jackson, Jon Nolan, Nick Wright, Dan Gray and left-back Sean Newton are all ruled out.

Town are favourites on Saturday but both teams will be desperate for a win to give their supporters a real shot in the arm.

The match kicks off early at 1pm, don't forget!
