Southport v Grimsby Team News

GRIMSBY could rise to within one point of the top 5 tonight if they beat Southport in the televised clash at Haig Avenue. It will probably be the toughest test Town have faced since they last lost, to Luton, in October.

The Mariners however will take comfort in their long unbeaten run since the defeat to Luton in the autumn and the fact that the Mariners won at Cambridge - proof that they could beat a top ten side. Gray Town have a fully fit squad to pick from so there are not likely to be many changes from the side that won at Bath in the FA Trophy 10 days ago. Several players were cup tied for that game but centre back Ian Miller is the most likely to return to the starting XI as he was in the side which won their last league game against Telford. Probably the next most likely to feature is new signing Louie Soares, yet to make his debut, but he may have to settle for a place on the bench if the managers want to stick with a winning side.

Southport, like Town, have only played one game this month (a 1-0 win over Darlo), have had mixed results recently. They lost 6-0 at home to Fleetwood, lost 3-0 to Cambridge, but drew 3-3 with Luton 4 games ago. Their leading scorer is Tony Gray with 15 goals.
