Stags Game Off

GRIMSBY's match with Mansfield on Boxing Day has unsurprisingly been called off. Town's next game is at Blundell Park on Tuesday, a fixture which is also in doubt due to the extreme weather. It means that Town have now gone seven consecutive weekends without a league game.

The Mariners already have 9 games scheduled for January (8 in the league), and 6 for February plus 2 possible FA Trophy ties. It is likely to test both the fitness of the players and the pockets of the supporters if all the games take place. The likelihood is at least some more games will be called off in January, traditionally the coldest month of the year.

The season is to be completed by the 30th April. If the Rushden game is postponed and Town get to the final on the FA Trophy it would mean playing 35 games in just over 18 weeks, excluding cup replays. The play-offs would follow if Grimsby managed to get to them and they had any players still able to take to the pitch!
