Beat the Bookies: Week 16

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 13/11/2010 (Last updated: 20/11/2010)

LAST week with the wins for Dover and FC United in the FA Cup First Round, was our biggest ever win by some margin, with over £150 being taken out of the bookies' satchels.

Home > 2010-2011 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 16

This week sees a return to league action for all the divisions, but with several teams having cup "distractions" it's worth looking out for those with replays around the corner.

  • WEST HAM (1.95 Boylesports) v Blackpool - Blackpool may be everyone's favourite side, but they are still probably the weakest side in the Premiership. They've had a few decent away results but as the season wears on they are likely to get sussed out, as did Hull City when they were in a similar position. Blackpool are worth opposing wherever they play for a good odds-on bet.
  • ASTON VILLA (5.0, Betfred) v Man Utd, Man Utd have not been firing on all cylinders for weeks and it's about time they actually lost a game.
  • Chelsea v SUNDERLAND (17.0 Boylesports). Likewise Chelsea another team out of form. The bookies take so many bets on them winning at home there's probably some value in the away win and the draw.

  • Wycombe v BRADFORD (4.33, Ladbrokes). Bradford have dug themselves out of a hole in recent weeks, and with their support and large crowd behind they're good value when they are on a run, even at one of the top clubs.
  • Gillingham v CREWE (3.00, Ladbrokes). Gillingham were poor last week against Dover, and the natives were getting restless at Priestfield. Crewe lost as well in the cup, but it wasn't in front of their own supporters and their league form is much better.
  • MACCLESFIELD (2.75, Victor Chandler) v Aldershot. The last thing Aldershot will want is a trip up North followed by a big cup replay against Brentford. The winner plays Dover so you can be sure the players will have the FA Cup Third Round at the back of their minds.

  • BARROW (3.75, Victor Chandler) v AFC Wimbledon. Barrow might be in the bottom four but their home form is that of a higher club in the division. AFC Wimbledon have a cup replay as well around the corner, and the prospect of a game against MK Dons. Barrow could well prove one game too many.
  • EASTBOURNE BORO (3.10, Victor Chandler) v Newport County. Eastbourne are another side with a decent home record and are worth backing against the big clubs on their own patch.
  • Hayes & Yeading v GRIMSBY (2.38 Sky Bet). Hayes recent form has been poor, and Town should win, especially if Ademeno is playing.

  • Monkey's bet: 3-1 win (19.0, Bet365)
