Ticket Prices Frozen

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 14/05/2010

TOWN have decided to freeze their ticket prices for next season despite Grimsby's relegation to the Blue Square Premier League. Adult match-day tickets will therefore remain at £18, which will mean Grimsby will be one of the more expensive places to watch BSP football next season.

Town chairman John Fenty said: "We've looked at what other clubs have done after relegation and some ordinary Conference clubs with regards ticket pricing."

"Effectively, we have decided to leave our prices where they are - there will be no rises or reductions.

"That is normal elsewhere if you look at Luton and Cambridge - they did the same when they went down."

Grim Rob Says: The board are in a difficult situation. If they reduce ticket prices there is no guarantee that extra fans are going to turn up. Likewise if they reduce season ticket prices substantially their matchday revenue may well plummet. It must be tempting to slash prices but it could end up with the Mariners becoming insolvent if not enough supporters take advantage of it. The chances are that if Town are doing well next season then people will pay the price whatever division they are in. I think on balance they have got it about right, but I do think football generally is too expensive compared to other sports like Rugby League.
