Town Face Bath City in Cup

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 25/10/2009

GRIMSBY have been drawn against Bath City at home in the FA Cup 1st Round. The Somerset side are currently midtable in the Blue Square South, but have an excellent record in the FA Cup, having reach the Third Round six times.

Grimsby have only met Bath once before, in the FA Cup 2nd Round in 1952. Town won the game 1-0 at Blundell Park to reach the Third Round.

Grimsby have not reached the Third Round of the FA Cup since they started at that stage of the competition 6 years ago. The last time they played a non-league side they lost, to Exeter City in 2004.

If the match goes to a replay Grimsby have played at Bath's ground before. They beat Bristol Rovers there 3-2 in a league game 17 years ago.

The match could have the added interest of being Neil Woods's last game in charge, at least as a caretaker.

Former Huddersfield midfielder Marcus Browning is amongst Bath's better known players.
