TONIGHT there will be celebrations across NE Lincs after Grimsby won their first league game for eight months and 22 matches at Bury this afternoon. Ironically they managed to do it despite playing the majority of the game with ten men.

Town started with expected with a recall for Trotter in midfield after missing the FA Cup match last week through ineligibility.

Town started brightly and Nick Hegarty had a golden chance to give the Mariners the lead but delayed shooting and Sodje managed to clear for a corner.

Then Kalala and Proudlock were both booked for arguing on 10 with the referee when Proudlock was challenged and the ref gave nothing.

On 17 a poor clearance by Bury saw the ball fall to Trotter who needed a simple header to put the ball into the net from close range.

On 22 a terrific cross by Jamie Clarke fell to Jarman who doubled Grimsby's lead when he buried it at the far post.

Atkinson and Bennett had a chance to make it three, but neither had a shot, believing they were offside.

Kalala was then sent off on 35 for making a reckless tackle, having previously been booked. Town switched to 4-4-1 with Proudlock up front.

Bury pressed forward for a goal in the remainder of the first half, winning a string of corners, and had 'keeper Phil Barnes to thank for a couple of smart saves.

Bury had most of the possession in the early part of the first half and Barnes had to tip over a shot from Dawson.

Town lived dangerously throughout the second half but defended stoutly and Bury did not have many clear cut chances. With 10 mins to go Hurst volleyed narrowly wide.

Bore and North has two clear chances to make it three for Town in the 90th minute as Bury piled forward.

Then in the dying embers of the game Hurst fired wide with only Barnes to beat.

Town hung on to win their first league game since March, even though they played most of the game with ten men!

A full report will appear later.
