GRIMSBY Town had goalkeeper Phil Barnes to thank for ensuring that the Mariners will be going back to Wembley ten years after they made the place a second home. Town defended in numbers for much of the game and two epic saves by Phil Barnes kept Town on course for the final.

Town now head to the New Wembley on 30th March to play MK Dons in the final.

Alan Buckley reverted to his usual team after the successful experiment with fringe players on Saturday and Town got off to a bright start, showing that there were not settling for the draw they needed. North almost got Town off to a great start on 4 minutes as Grimsby went for the jugular, but the keeper tipped the ball over.

Morecambe gradually got in to the game, with their defence managing to soak up most of the Town pressure and restricting the Mariners to just sniffs at goal.

At the other end the story was the same. Morecambe's best chances of scoring looked to be if Grimsby's defence made a mistake. Fortunately on the few occasions when they did they didn't make the most of it.

In the second half Town gradually went into their shell and it was all Morecambe. But Barnes was equal to the Morecambe strikers when they managed to test him. A brilliant flying save by Barnes in injury time when he hurled himself across the goal to parry a Stanley shot was crowning achievement of his performance.
