By: Alex Green
Date: 25/02/2008
SO the winner faces MK Dons at Wembley in March sometime, I haven’t dare looked as it may tempts fat but with 180 minutes left between us and that gridlocked part of London our minds are starting to run away with us.

One of the new boys in the Football League are enjoying continuous success as they push for a play-off place and be the second ever team to return to New Wembley after Chelsea. After wining promotion last season via the play-offs Morecambe have been able to continue their brilliant form and currently lie 9th and on equal points with seventh place Stockport. Manager Sammy McIllroy (left) will be on the shortlist for Manager of the Season if he can keep producing the results which have got Morecambe so close to a dream return to the Football League. Morecambe's biggest scalp of the competition was the 1-0 victory away at League One Tranmere in the very first round of the trophy. Morecambe’s play-off final victory over Exeter last season last season will stand them in good stead for the final few round of the cup in the do and die attitude when it comes down to the last few minutes.
McIllroy has collected together a vast array of talent and experience in his bid to help Morecambe move further up the echelons on the Football League. Ever present Stuart Drummond and Jim Bentley (left) prove a good backbone to the team while the rather portly but always committed defender Danny Adams is also well experienced. Upfront Carl Baker is leading scorer with 9 and can count on his partnerships with Bentley and Blinkhorn to prove decisive on the break. After mixed results of late including a 3-0 defeat to Darlington Morecambe will hope to put their season back on track for that final push for the play-offs and a trip to the home of football would mostly certainly help.
Michael Twiss (left) was one of the players of the season last year in the Conference, his skill and distribution proving vital to Morecambe’s play-off success. After starting slowly this season the midfielder has battled back to be as impressive as before with 4 goals from midfield so far. His spark and knack of game winning goals has made him a fans' favourite and it’s a big occasion like this that might see the former Manchester United player putting in a Man of the Match performance.
