Reddy Future in Doubt

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 15/03/2007

TOWN striker Michael Reddy's future at Blundell Park lies in the balance after injury problems have reduced a player who was once Grimsby's greatest asset just a year ago into one who might not even be worth offering a new contract.

The Irishman rejected a contract offer which was put to him earlier this season, and demanded a transfer from Blundell Park. That offer has been withdrawn some time ago, and Town are in no rush to present new terms to the flamboyant striker.

Reddy is out of contract in the summer and his future in football would seem to look uncertain after spending all season on the treatment table since having an operation on his hip last year.

Town chairman John Fenty told the Grimsby Telegraph: "It is a real shame to see a quality player like Michael having such a difficult time with injuries.

"Not only that, they are probably going to dog him for the rest of his career. For that reason, we now need to be very careful how we move forward.

"We will have to see what happens in the summer when he is out of contract."

Fenty must now be regretting turning down a substantial bid for the Irishman from Bristol City just a year ago, but with Town pushing for promotion at the time it seemed a prudent move at the time.
