APRIL FOOL: Slade Shock Resignation!

By: Fishy Team
Date: 01/04/2005

In a surprise move today, Russell Slade resigned as manager of Grimsby Town Football Club. Chairman John Fenty has issued the following statement;

"We regret the departure of Russell who has done a great job for us this season and we extended his contract because of that, but he has chosen to join another club overseas to take up another challenge."

"Russell's departure on this special day does give us the chance to reorganise and the board have taken that opportunity and appointed Mr Alan Buckley as Director of Football and Brian Laws will be returning to Blundell Park, by arrangement with Scunthorpe United, to become Chief Coach under his leadership and we look forward to a successful conclusion to this season"

Mr Buckley declined to comment and Brian Laws was unavailable.

Russell Slade is believed to be heading for Australia to manage the Australian International Ladies team 'The Matildas'.

John Fenty later said; "We are looking to the fans and supporters to forget the past and get behind the new management team and the squad who have a very strong challenge in front of them in seeking to get us back into division one"

"It would be helpful if the fans would refrain from referring to supersonic chickens or anything Italian. We need to pull together and Mr Laws is one of the best pullers in football. Look what he has achieved at Scunthorpe!"

Grimsby Town fan Ms April Fuller said; "I can hardly believe it!"
