Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish?

Sestanovich Leaves Blundell Park

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/01/2005

RUSSELL Slade has finally lost patience with midfielder Ashley Sestanovich and asked the temperamental 23-year-old to leave Blundell Park. "Stan", who had been on a season-long loan from Bramall lane, was this week summoned to appear before the FA on a misconduct charge, and heavily fined.

Stan's last game for the Mariners was a four minute substitute appearance against Northampton at Blundell Park, in which he was dismissed for foul and abusive language towards the referee. Had striker Michael Reddy not intervened, Sestanovich looked as though he were about to strike the official.

At his hearing the FA doubled Sestanovich's ban to four games, and gave the big midfielder an additional fine to that he had received from the Mariners.

Last year Sestanovich displeased the club when he walked out the ground after being named as a substitute against Swansea. Although he later publicly apologised, his continual misdemeanours both on and off the pitch eventually led to him being asked to leave.

"We can't tolerate his behaviour," Slade told Mariners Net. "I've spoken to Stan and I have told him that he can leave."

"He's a very talented boy, very young and inexperienced in many ways. Hopefully one day the penny will drop," said the Town boss.
