Government Moves To Assist Football Trusts!

The Government are looking at ways how supporters can have a bigger say in the running of football clubs and the Treasury is looking at giving significant tax help to supporters' trusts who wish take over clubs in financial trouble.
The government implies that the football industry is out of control in its greed and the paymaster general, the sports minister and treasury officials, will look at tax breaks to help supporters to take over failing clubs and to ensure that administrators can get clubs back on firmer financial ground by removing some of the obstacles that administrators face. As the major debts owed by clubs is in taxes, the treasury is looking to write off those debts to allow the clubs to be controlled by their respective supporters trusts.
John Peyton said today that the trend in football is the creation of Supporters Trusts and the aim is to give these trusts every opportunity to gain control of their clubs if they go into administration and with the tax breaks, they should be able to take over an almost debt free club.
There will however, have to be a fairer agreement for the other creditors citing the case of Leicester City who paid only 10p in the pound to their creditors. Creditors should receive no less than 75p in the pound through an instalment plan if needed but the aim is to protect the rights of creditors and at the same time allow the club to regain financial stability.
The offer of tax breaks will only be made to Supporters Trusts and will not be a general free for all.
This is good news again for football fans and Mariners fans know how close Grimsby Town came to going into administration. We are not out of the woods yet and even if it is only a precautionary measure, all Grimsby Town fans who care about the future of their club should not wait to join the Grimsby Town Supporters Trust.

I am of the opinion that the trust is one of the most effective ways that supporters can gain some say in the running of the club and every Mariners supporter should, in my opinion, be a member.
