Boulding And Ford: Latest News On Contracts!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 27/04/2002

MICK Boulding said today that he has not turned down the Grimsby Town offer but has instead decided to wait to see what other offers come in for him with speculation that Premier clubs are interested in signing him.

The Grimsby Telegraph reports today that Middlesbrough are one of a string of top flight clubs showing interest in him. He denied reports that the former Mansfield attacker has turned down a deal with the Mariners, insisting instead that he wants more time to mull over his future.

Boulding told the Grimsby Telegraph: "I haven't turned down a new contract. I just want more time and I have to wait for other things. It's not anything to do with playing in the first division, but there are several Premiership offers and if they materialise that would be a different story. I'm 26, not 21, and if the chance is there for me to step up I've got to take it. Grimsby have to understand that."

"Grovesy has said that's okay and given me more time to see what happens. I've told him not to wait for me if he wants to plan for next year and I don't want to mess him about. I'll leave it a few weeks because of the Premiership interest. We'll see what happens."

Boulding has so far refused to name any of the interested clubs but Middlesbrough have been keeping tabs on him.

Simon Ford

But Simon Ford has definitely rejected the club's initial two-year offer although Cardiff City boss Lennie Lawrence has dropped out of the race to sign him. It is understood that he wants more money and Bradford City are favourites to sign him if he leaves Blundell Park.

His agent George Lawrence said the player is not happy with the terms offered. "They offered him two years on not good money and he's turned it down. Talks are still ongoing and there are other clubs that are interested in him without going into names."

The other Lawrence, Lennie said he has ruled out a swoop for the youngster.

"We've got lots of talented young centre-backs and we won't be doing anything. That's not to say I don't think he's a good player, because he is. But we don't need him."
