Not A Good Forecast!

By: Richard Lord
Date: 17/03/2002

I am pleased to say that my pre-weekend predictions were mostly incorrect - especially one in particular! Walsall against Barnsley went to form, but the rest were way off the mark.

Rotherham picked up a point at home to Bradford, a game that I had down as a home win. Sheffield Wednesday recorded a great victory away at Millwall, when I believed it would finish as a draw.

I expected Crewe to beat Portsmouth at home, but perhaps I under-estimated Pompey as they have now turned the corner after a dismal run of defeats. They did well to record a 1-1 draw at Gresty Road.

Crewe aren't out of it yet, although they really should escape with the amount of games they have in hand. One of them is played this Wednesday night when they travel to Preston.

Finally I move on to the result that I got completely wrong, I'm happy to reveal. Wolves undefeated in nine games, Grimsby hadn't won away from home in the league since early September…. It just goes to show that anything can happen in football!

If things went the way I predicted, it would see us second to bottom on goal difference, with Barnsley just above and Walsall out of the bottom three one point ahead.

It just makes you appreciate the win at Molineux even more, to see us out of the bottom three for the first time since the beginning of December.
