Where will Grimsby finish?

Beharall Signs For Oldham

By: Richard Lord
Date: 07/03/2002

FORMER Grimsby Town loan defender David Beharall signed a three-year deal at Oldham Athletic on Wednesday for £150,000. The ex-Newcastle player has been a big hit at Boundary Park and his services have been secured for a bargain price.

The 23-year old's spell at Blundell Park was largely impressive, featuring in 14 league games and one League Cup match, that being the 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield where he conceded a penalty.

The arrival of Marlon Broomes to the club forced Beharall back to Newcastle for a short spell before he was taken to Oldham on loan. There were rumours that Lennie Lawrence was to go back and approach Beharall to try and entice him to the Mariners in a permanent deal.

But the board never sanctioned that, and eventually Broomes also left the club, joining up with fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.

Beharall played over 20 games for the Latics and scored one goal. This eventually persuaded the management team to sign him on a permanent deal.

Of course, this now means that all rumours have been put to rest and for the next few seasons at least, and Beharall will not be available to any club.
