Pringle Relishing Challenge

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 22/02/2002

SWEDISH striker Martin Pringle is relishing the opportunity to return to football after over a year with no first team action caused by an ankle problem. The Swede, who has played in the Champions League for Benfica in the past, will start tomorrow at the City Ground in a Grimsby shirt.

"I've got a point to prove definitely. It's going to be fun playing football again. I really want to prove to everyone that I'm still here after being out for a couple of years", the Swede told Radio Humberside.

"I'm here to score goals. That's my aim and that's why I'm here," Pringle told the Evening Telegraph. "I've got high expectations of myself and I've set a target, but I'm not revealing it! I've been in relegation battles before. Not just at Charlton but at my old clubs too. I haven't played a competitive game all season and I'm very excited about tomorrow.

"Obviously I want to score goals and if I can help out by being here and doing that, then it's even better for everybody. I'm very pleased to be here and it's an opportunity for me to get back. I've played a few reserve games for Charlton but that hasn't given me that extra edge."

Pringle's Addicks' teammate Andy Todd arrived at Blundell Park at the same time as the Swede, both on a month long loan with Grimsby, and the fact that both players were wanted simultaneously helped act in the Mariners' favour at clinching the deal.

"Andy and I spoke about this the other day and we said it would be nice if it was two of us here. It just means that it's a bit easier because we won't get bored in the hotel and there's always somebody to have a chat to." said Pringle.
