In a statement to Planet Football today Lincoln manager Alan Buckley ruled out any move for Paul Groves and other Grimsby players. "I can see why people would link me with Grovesie for obvious reasons." said Buckley.

"There are bound to be one or two players from the club that I'm linked with but there's nothing in that as far as I'm concerned." John Finnigan's not coming to Grimsby said Buckley. "Finny's a good player and as far as I'm concerned he's playing here with me at Lincoln."

Stadium Delay

More delays to the new Grimsby Town stadium are expected as the general election is on hold owing to the foot and mouth epidemic. Although North-East Lincolnshire Council have now included the stadium into the local plan for the area an early decision on the planning permission is not expected.

Because the granting of permission is seen as a politically sensitive matter, the Environmental Secretary of State John Prescott, may well wait until after the election before making his decision.

This is a further blow to the Mariners hopes of seeing the stadium completed within the two year timetable and it may well affect the sponsorship opportunities if those companies who have previously indicated an interest are kept waiting.

The club are reported to have the designs, paperwork and the tenders all ready for the new 20,100 seat stadium at Great Coates, but must now wait until the political manoeuvring is over.

Club vice chairman Bryan Huxford said: "Everything is in the minister's hands now but I don't think we'll get a decision this side of a general election."
